" Auntie can you help me to clean the table please, its very dirty , thank you"
Wearily , she drapes her rag onto her arm and push the cockery cart to the table . As she swiped the grime, her eyes wandered around the vicinity . Every table sat a family , or at least , a mum and her child . There were roses and cakes and beautifully wrapped presents in the arms of mothers. She looked at her hand covered with filth , took a deep breath and submitted to fate.
"Heres the pay for this month , sorry it came so late, the people up there were giving us a hard time."
"Thank you" she croaked.
" Hows ah boy doing? Has he been going to school and all? I hope he mixes well with his class mates..."
She kept her reserve and managed a smile as she packed her uniform into her bag. Ah boy is 19 years old now, he is her only son. The father died in a freak accident at his work site , leaving her as the family's sole bread winner. Ah boy finally made it into pre-school this year , he was diagnose with autism at the age of 3.
The casual walk back home became draggy steps. Her legs feels especially heavy today . The gates creaked open, marking the end of her tormenting journey back home. She sauntered in the dark pass her living room and into her bed room. She then took light foot steps into the kitchen for her shower in an attempt to make as least noise as possible, not wanting to wake ah boy up.
As she turn on the lights at the kitchen , she was froze.
"Ah boy! "
The child looked at her mother guiltily as he sat on the floor , infront of him laid cutlery sprewn across the floor.
" Ma..."
" what are you doing? So late haven't sleep!"
"I want to cook dinner for you ma, teacher said today is mother's day , I want to thank you for being my mum"
Tears welled up in her eyes as she dropped on her knees to hug her son...
" Shi shan zhi you ma ma hao, you ma ti hai zi...~~~~"
The dim moon light creeps off as he continued singing......
